MathCounts is a national program designed to inspire excellence, confidence and curiosity in U.S. middle school students through fun and challenging math programs. With support from sponsors and volunteers and the leadership of the National Society of Professional Engineers at the local and state levels, MATHCOUNTS provides students with the foundation for success in science, technology, engineering and mathematics careers.
The Chester County competition, which included both individual and team events, presented a challenging day of mathematical problem solving to the approximately 200 students from 30 middle schools. Written competition is held in the morning and oral competition in the afternoon.
The afternoon events included a Lightning Round, where individual team members compete one-on-one for the top prize, and the Countdown Round, which features the top 10 finishers from the morning written rounds. Awards are presented to the top four teams and the top 10 individuals.
