Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment

The mission of the Oxford Area School District states that all students will achieve academic excellence in a safe and nurturing environment as we prepare each student to be a confident, contributing, productive and responsible citizen.  Curriculum and instruction are the foundations that support this mission.  It is quality curriculum and skillful instruction that are stepping stones for every student on the path of success in the Oxford Area School District.  One of the measures we use to gauge the success of our programs is through varied assessments.

Each subject area curricula is reviewed as indicated through our cycle to ensure that it upholds true academic rigor, is current with regard to research and is tied to national best practices.  Our curriculum review cycle is designed to evaluate all aspects of academic programming, from instructional practice to the tools used to deliver the curriculum so that students are able to pursue their educational and career goals.

The Office of Curriculum and Instruction works closely with each building’s administrator as well as other district directors to support the teachers and auxiliary staff as they work with the students.  This is accomplished through meaningful staff development based on district initiatives as identified in the school district’s strategic plan and mission statement.  The goal at each grade level is to help students to think critically, to build meaning and foster real life application.   Staff development is critical to ensure student success.
Lastly, benchmark assessments are tools used throughout the year to measure student growth and allow the teaching staff to alter their instruction accordingly to meet each student at their level of need.  A list of tests along with descriptions and dates administered are linked to this webpage.  These assessments, along with state and teacher-generated tools, will give a comprehensive look at student achievement within a grade level.

Success of our academic programs as related to curriculum, instruction and assessment requires parent involvement.  Our building and district administrators encourage parent involvement in their child’s academic journey.  Please click on our links in the menu to learn more about each of the areas of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment. Education is the key to the door of opportunity. With a good education, children can dream, achieve, and lead productive lives.  It is up to us to help prepare the way.
