Benny
received an Outstanding Scholar-Athlete Award in 1968 from the Evening
and Sunday Bulletin. In 1969 he was a member of Oxford's Southern
Chester County League and District I championship basketball team. In
that year he also became a 1,000-point scorer. He went on to play basketball
for West Chester State College where he was captain in 1972-73, and also
in that year was named to the All-Pennsylvania State College Conference
team. Benny was head basketball coach for York High School for four years
and in 1980 led the team to the District 3 championship. At the time of
his induction he had taught for 15 Years at York High School and was a
Territory Sales Manager for Kaplan Early Learning Company. |
Judy
James Davis |
Judy
was a three-sport athlete at Oxford, playing basketball, hockey and tennis.
She earned eight varsity letters over four years and was captain of the
tennis team for three consecutive years. In addition, Judy was MVP for
tennis for three years, league singles champ in 1974 and was undefeated
in league singles play in that same year. In the fall of 1972 she was
one of seven girls to compete in the NFL Punt, Pass and Kick competition,
the first group of females to compete. She was voted Outstanding Female
Athlete in 1977. |
Scott

Scott
was a three-sport athlete at Oxford, participating in track, football
and wrestling. He earned 12 varsity letters while at Oxford. In football
he was named to the Daily Local News All-Area First Offensive
Team in 1987 and was a Big 33 nominee. In wrestling he was a four-time
District 1AA champion, a 1986 Southeast Region AA champion, and a three-time
PIAA AA state qualifier. He was the 1987 Daily Local News Davis
Award winner and Oxford Coaches Award winner. He went on to wrestle for
two years at Millersville University. At the time of his induction he
had been the assistant wrestling coach for Oxford Area High School for
seven years. |
Ken
Howett |
Ken
began his career in Oxford athletics in 1958 as JV basketball coach, quickly
advancing to Varsity coach. He coached basketball for the next 22 years
during which time he had a run for the State Championship in 1968-69.
The team finished with 22 wins and 3 losses that year, and won the Southern
Chester County League title and then the District 1 championship. No team
in the history of Oxford Area High School has advanced as far in the state
playoffs as the '68-'69 basketball team. In 1975-76 the team again won
the SCCL title. In 1960, Ken became the Athletic Director and remained
in this position for the next 31 years. Back then, this was an unpaid
job. As Athletic Director, Ken was responsible for establishing the football,
boys' and girls' tennis, volleyball, girls' cross-country, wrestling,
indoor track, softball and girls' track programs. |
Paul
Poole |
While
at Oxford High, Paul participated in soccer, basketball, baseball and
track. In the summer he played American Legion baseball. In 1953 he was
selected to the All-State Legion team and was the starting pitcher in
the Old Connie Mack Stadium. He went on to play four years of college
baseball at West Chester State College and upon graduation signed a professional
contract with the Milwaukee Braves. For the next three-and-a-half years
he played professional ball before retiring. Paul came back to Oxford,
teaching physical education and science and coached the baseball team
in the 1960s. While teaching in Oxford, Paul pitched batting practice
for the Philadelphia Phillies for three years. After leaving Oxford, Mr.
Poole worked for 30 years in Human Resources for the Dupont Company. |
